19/12/2011
Fondazione Brodolini, on behalf of the European Commission and in cooperation with IRS (Institute for Social Research), coordinates the European Network of Expert in the Field of Gender Equality (ENEGE) with the aim of contributing to the development of European policies in the field of gender equality. ENEGE activities in the field of gender equality are focused mainly on policies concerning employment, social protection and inclusion.

Coordinated by Fondazione Brodolini in cooperation with IRS (Institute for Social Research) and funded by the Directorate-General for Justice of the European Commission, the European Network of Expert in the Field of Gender Equality (ENEGE) aims at contributing to the development of comprehensive European-level policies on gender equality based on the current European policy framework, namely:

  • The Europe 2020 Strategy for the EU to become a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy with high levels of employment, productivity and social cohesion;
  • The European Commission’s Strategy for equality between women and men 2010-2015, and in particular its first four priorities (promoting equality as part of the Europe 2020 strategy and through EU funding; promoting female entrepreneurship and self-employment; assessing workers’ rights with regard to leave for family reasons; assessing Member States’ performance with regard to childcare facilities).

The network covers all 27 EU Member States, EU Accession Candidate (Croatia, FYROM, Turkey) and Pre-Accession Candidate (Serbia) countries, and EFTA/EEA countries Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

Working as a knowledge broker for the most relevant European and international research on gender equality, ENEGE advises and supports the European Commission in the analysis of gender equality policies, reforms and their implications at European and national level.

The ENEGE network is managed and coordinated by Professor Francesca Bettio (University of Siena).
