Procedural safeguards for children who are suspects or accused persons in criminal proceedings Part II: Fieldwork research with children FRA Framework Contract 2018-2022
The project focuses in particular on the procedural safeguards for children who are suspects or accused persons in criminal proceedings. These safeguards are prescribed in Directive (EU) 2016/800 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 May 2016 on procedural safeguards for children who are suspects or accused persons in criminal proceedings.
This service request complements the research project conducted under SR 45 and is aimed at learning from children themselves about how their procedural rights were complied with when they have been involved in criminal proceedings as suspects or accused persons in the period after the expiry of the transposition deadline of the Directive, i.e. after 11 June 2019. Six children shall be interviewed on their experiences, feelings and reflections about the procedural safeguards put in place during their proceedings.
FGB – as Italian contractor of the FRANET multi-disciplinary research network – will conduct the research in Italy, providing FRA with the 6 semi-structured interviews with children involved in criminal proceedings. The results emerging from these interviews will be summarised in a final country report.
