The project aims to provide technical and operational support to the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, in its capacity as Managing Authority (MA) of the Interreg NEXT MED 2021-2017 Programme

Now in its third edition, the Interreg NEXT MED transnational cooperation programme represents one of the most important cooperation initiatives implemented by the European Union at transnational level in the Mediterranean area.

The objective of the programme is to strengthen Euro-Mediterranean cooperation for the period 2021-2027, within the framework of the EU Cohesion Policy and its specific Interreg instrument, which supports European territorial cooperation between regions and countries.

Through the programme, cooperation projects are funded, addressing socio-economic, environmental and governance challenges on both sides of the Mediterranean.

The European Union's contribution to the programme is approximately 263,094,725.00 euros; the total programme budget (including national contributions) is approximately 292,327,476.00 euros.

The Interreg NEXT MED Programme is based on four priorities:

  1. a smarter Mediterranean;
  2. a greener Mediterranean;
  3. a more social and inclusive Mediterranean;
  4. a better cooperation governance for the Mediterranean.

The cooperation area comprises 7 EU Member States (Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain) and 8 partners of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) outside the European Union (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, Turkey).

In this context, the Managing Authority carries out its functions with the technical and operational support of a Joint Technical Secretariat. The committee brings together professionals with diverse expertise, offering specialised support in strategy, implementation, management, as well as legal, environmental, and linguistic matters.

Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini is entrusted with providing support and technical assistance to the Managing Authority in the implementation of the Interreg NEXT MED 2021-2027 Operational Programme.

By engaging a team of experts, FGB will be in charge of establishing the Joint Technical Secretariat, providing technical and operational support for the programme management, and direct support for the financial and technical monitoring and audit of the programme.
