The project aims to provide European Parliament with a research on the candidates of the next European elections from a gender perspective.
In particular, the study will make available to the contracting authority:
- copies of electoral lists of all national political parties or independent candidates which, as at January 2014, are represented in the European Parliament and which are participating in the May 2014 Elections to the European Parliament. The list will be sorted by Member States and it will clearly indicate the sex of each candidate.
- a list of those political parties and independent candidates which are participating in the elections of 2014 for each Member State.
- a short analytical statement with a short description of the electoral system of the respective Member State, in particular containing information on legally imposed gender quotas or other systems for equal representation of both sexes. It will be mentioned whether the law foresees monitoring of its application and/or sanctions in case of non-compliance; for each political party and independent candidate entry it will be specify if voluntary gender quotas are applicable or another system is in place to alternate candidates by gender on the list.
