Updating the European Skills Index for Cedefop

As part of the Skills Intelligence Services framework contract with the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop), Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini has started work on the update of the next edition of the European Skills Index (ESI), one of Cedefop's key tools for assessing and comparing the performance of skills systems across Europe.

The new assignment builds on FGB’s previous contribution to the Index, carried out between 2023 and 2024.

The European Skills Index is Cedefop’s composite indicator for measuring the performance of national skills systems. Organised around three main pillars – skills development, skills activation and skills matching – it provides a common framework for examining how effectively countries develop people’s skills, activate them in the labour market and match those skills to labour market needs.

The Index is based on 15 individual indicators drawn from international datasets, providing comparable evidence on the performance of skills systems across European countries and helping to identify areas for improvement.
