Improving skills matching in Europe
As part of the EU Social Partners' Integrated Projects of the European Social Dialogue, FGB has been awarded the BusinessEurope contract for the research study Improving Skills Matching in Europe 2024-2025, with the aim to explore and enhance the role of social partners in addressing skills mismatches and shortages across the EU.
By focusing on some of the key aspects of skills matching and its critical role in shaping a competitive, inclusive, and innovative EU labour market, the project will explore the concepts of skills mismatches and shortages, analysing the factors that contribute to these phenomena.
Furthermore, the study will examine how social partners contribute to national and sectoral approaches through social dialogue. It will also investigate the interplay between skills development, quality jobs, and the competitiveness of EU companies, regions, and countries. Ultimately, actionable strategies to enhance employee training frameworks, improve labour market intelligence, and reduce structural mismatches will be developed.
"FGB will produce a comprehensive research paper on skills matching, social dialogue, and the relationship between skills, jobs, and competitiveness" explains Liga Baltina, Head of FGB's Labour Market & Skills Research and coordinator of the study. "By emphasising the role of social partners in updating occupational profiles and shaping curricula to address changing market demands, the study will highlight the significance of quality, inclusive, and effective employee training in mitigating skills shortages".
