EMPOW-AIR was implemented to prevent and fight against violence against children, youngsters and women and to protect victims of groups at risk. In particular, Roma women, as members of a socially-excluded ethnic minority, are highly vulnerable to male violence.
The aims of the project were:
- To identify the main features of male violence against women (MVAW)
- To define means for operators working with Roma people
- To promote awareness-raising of Roma men and responsible politicians on the topic
- To perform research on the prevalence and characteristics of MVAW in intimate partnerships within the Roma communities
- To generate tools that assist professionals working with the Roma population in the detection and prevention of MVAW
- To raise awareness on male violence against Roma women, and sensitise professionals working with the Roma, Roma men, and policy-makers about the need to promote actions in this area
- To promote the empowerment of Roma women as a tool to foster protection from MVAW
