The project promotes a nationwide initiative dedicated to the future of sustainable work and the impact of Artificial Intelligence, with the aim of contributing to the implementation of the National Sustainable Development Strategy through foresight studies, training activities, local events, multi-stakeholder consultations and digital communication tools. The initiative also seeks to build a new narrative around sustainable work towards 2050.

Funded by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security under the SNSvS6 Public Call for the implementation of the National Sustainable Development Strategy, the project represents the second phase of Future of Workers, Observatory on sustainable work.

It is structured around three main lines of action: 

  • analysis of future work scenarios;
  • capacity building activities on AI as a driver of labour market transformation;
  • co-design of a shared roadmap to support the sustainable adoption of AI in the workplace.

The project's objectives are to:

  • imagine the future of sustainable work through foresight scenarios on: AI and job quality, AI and skills, AI and training systems, and AI as a matchmaker between people and the labour market.
  • build knowledge and operational capacity through training activities, webinars, community learning and public events addressed to institutions, companies, third-sector organisations, young people and civil society.
  • co-design a manifesto for sustainable work in the age of AI and a set of policy recommendations through multi-stakeholder working groups, public consultation and local policy hackathons.

FGB is the project applicant and sole implementing organisation.

Project outputs

  • 1 synthesis document on the use of foresight in the analysis of the sustainable labour market;
  • 4 foresight reports/policy briefs on the project themes;
  • 8 multi-stakeholder thematic working groups;
  • 6-8 webinars on AI and work transformation;
  • a digital community involving more than 800 stakeholders; 
  • 4 local public events of the "Tour of the Future" in Aosta, Milan, Turin and Cassino;
  • 1 manifesto on "Sustainable Work and AI", including at least 15 proposed actions.
  • 1 online public consultation with at least 100 contributions collected.
  • 1 digital press kit.
  • 18 newsletters distributed through the Future of Workers LinkedIn channel and the community mailing list.
  • 1 final national event.
