The illegal and irregular employment of foreigners in Italy

The aim of the research is to collect data on the work experiences of foreign people in Italy, with a particular focus on undeclared work.

By means of a survey which will be administered to two thousand foreigners, the origins, methods and professional areas of black and grey work will be investigated, together with the motivations lying behind it.

Through the analysis of the collected data, a profile of the workers involved in the survey will be drawn, tracing their nationalities and sectors of activity, as well as their personal and professional prospects.

In addition, a specific focus on women will make it possible to identify the perceptions of female irregular foreign workers in terms of unpleasant experiences closely linked to their gender.

Finally, the research will include two focus groups aimed at investigating two specific trends within the broader theme of the survey: the first, which has already been defined, will focus on domestic work, while the second will be agreed with the client on the basis of the initial results of the survey.

Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini is responsible for carrying out the entire first phase of the project (desk analysis), including the collection and cleaning of data, analysis and reporting. For the latter, interactive cartographies will be used for data visualisation, which will allow a more efficient and accurate identification of the target areas.

In the second phase (field analysis), Fondazione Brodolini, in agreement with Teleperformance Ks Italy and Inapp, will design the cognitive questionnaire to be administered to foreigners, identifying the most appropriate structure for collecting useful information to achieve the project's objectives.

FGB is also in charge of the organisation of the activities of the two focus groups. Finally, once the survey is completed, Fondazione Brodolini will conduct the analysis on the collected data and prepare the final report.
