Equal pay for women and men has been a founding principle of the European Union since the Treaty of Rome in 1957. Despite the existence of legislation, its effective implementation and enforcement remains a big challenge reflected in the persistence and magnitude of the gender pay gap which was still 16 % for the EU28 in 2018. Most recently, the European Commission has taken steps to introduce binding pay transparency measures in all Member States. Eurofound has been in charge of compiling information on the ‘costs of pay transparency measures’ in countries where these measures already exist. Italy is one of the European Countries that has already a pay transparency measure in force: ‘company pay reports’)

The FGB has conducted the assessment for Italy providing legal analysis of the current legislative framework on the subject and collecting information at company level. Information were meant to be used by Eurofound and the European Commission  to assess efficiency of the measure (cost/effectiveness).
