Mobility for all, gender aspects in transport and mobility policies
Mobility for All project, led by Silvia Sansonetti and Roberta Paoletti, experts of Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini (FGB), provides the tools to take the gender perspective into account when defining transport policy. Based on the mobility and gender data included in the latest report, Women in transport, the study fits into the framework of the European Green Deal by linking gender equality to environmental sustainability.
The aim is to provide a list of elements to be considered when designing public transport policies, with a focus on actively involving stakeholders and adopting an intersectional approach that takes gender and the environment into account. Access to public transport is a key determinant of the social impact of mobility. Therefore, initiatives are proposed that take into account the complexity of factors such as gender, sexual orientation, age and poverty for both users and workers in the sector. The report, which was presented to the European Parliament during the session Overcoming gender barriers in transport and mobility on 9 March 2023, is divided into three parts. The first part provides an analysis of the data, the second presents six examples of best practices in participatory planning from EU Member States and the third lists suggestions for policy makers in public transport.
