The impact of automation in the automotive sector

On the occasion of the 5th Employment Policy Research Symposium, that will be held in Geneva (ILO headquarters, Room XI, R2 S and Zoom) on 11 and 12 May 2023, our expert Margherita Russo, Professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, will present the preliminary findings of a field research on the impacts of automation in the automotive sector in Spain.

The research is part of a broader study investigating the impacts of automation in the automotive and garment sectors carried out by Fondazione Brodolini in cooperation with AITEX, Spain’s textile industries research association, and commissioned by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre.

The aim of this study is to carry out case studies investigating the socio-economic impact of automation in the automotive and garment/apparel sectors in three European countries (Germany, Romania and Spain), focusing on labour process, job quality and gender differences within the workplace. Fondazione Brodolini was responsible for the analysis covering the automotive sector.

Titled Employment policies for social justice, and organised in partnership with the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, the 2023 Employment Policy Researchs Symposium will focus on the theme of employment policies and social justice.

The conference will highlight the latest thinking on how integrated national employment policies tailored to the circumstances of countries promote inclusive transitions and social justice.
