Interreg NEXT MED, towards a sustainable Mediterranean

For the next five years, Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini will support the Autonomous Region of Sardinia in its role as the Managing Authority of the Interreg NEXT MED 2021-2027 Programme, providing technical and operational support in its implementation.

Now in its third edition, Interreg NEXT MED is one of the most important transnational cooperation programmes of the European Union for the Mediterranean area. The programme's objective is to strengthen Euro-Mediterranean cooperation by funding projects that focus on key socioeconomic, environmental, and governance challenges.

Specifically, the programme aims to make the Mediterranean area more innovative, competitive, green, and inclusive, while improving its governance and cooperation mechanisms.

Along with Italy, the programme involves six other EU member states (Cyprus, France, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Spain) and eight non-EU countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, Turkey).

Within this framework, Fondazione Brodolini will provide support and technical assistance to the Managing Authority. Its intervention will focus particularly on establishing the Joint Technical Secretariat, which is responsible for providing strategic, operational, managerial, legal, environmental, and linguistic technical assistance.

"Fondazione Brodolini will also provide technical and operational support for the programme management, with particular attention to governance, financial and technical monitoring, and auditing" explains Raffaele Paciello, Coordinator of FGB's Public Policy & Communication Advisory Communication Area. "Thanks to its previous experience in supporting institutions and managing international cooperation projects, FGB will actively contribute to achieving the programme’s objectives, promoting effective collaboration among Mediterranean countries and a strategic use of European resources" he concludes.
