The socio-economic status of women of foreign descent in the EU

Written by Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini's researchers Marta Capesciotti and Silvia Sansonetti, the Report on the socio-economic status of women of African, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Asian descent living in the EU, was published in March on the European Parliament's website.

The report was commissioned by the European Parliament's Policy Department for Citizens' Rights and Constitutional Affairs at the request of the FEMM Committee, and provides an overview of existing data and studies on the living conditions and social inclusion of women of African, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Asian descent living in the European Union.

Furthermore, the study focuses on a number of specific topics considered by the researchers as indicators and privileged observation points on women's living conditions: education, housing conditions, family and relational patterns, employment, health conditions.

What clearly emerges is the absence of official, reliable and comparable data at EU level on the population under analysis.

Finally, the report makes useful recommendations to European and national institutions for the adoption of policies aimed at overcoming the obstacles that still prevent the full inclusion of women of African, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Asian descent living in the European society.
