MAAT - Mobilizing youth for gender inclusive cities is a two-year project funded by the European Union under Erasmus+.

The aim of MAAT project is to foster active citizenship among young people, notably through participatory approaches allowing them to be at the centre of research and policy-making and thereby strengthen their sense of initiative, particularly in the area of cities’ inclusivity through a gender perspective, as well as to support their communities in order to build up a more equal and inclusive use of the city. MAAT also promotes amongst the youth a social entrepreneurial mindset aligned with the EntreComp Framework. Through the project activities, young people will be able to increase their intercultural dialogue and awareness competencies and to renew their knowledge and recognition of diversity and the promotion of tolerance, taking into consideration the different uses of a city as shaped by different groups of people.

The MAAT project promotes active citizenship and lifelong learning in the youth population, fostering the development of social and intercultural competencies, critical thinking and participatory approaches to solve social issues. Therefore, the MAAT project offers young people the opportunity to participate in democratic life, social and civic engagement through a non-formal education programme. The youth will be able, after participating in the project activities, to raise awareness on shared EU values (especially concerning Intersectional Gender Equality) in the way cities are lived, promoting the principles of unity and diversity.

The MAAT project furthermore addresses the need for stronger links between policy, research and practice in the youth field to provide improved evidence of needs in terms of how different groups use a city, and contribute to facilitate policy-making by designing and implementing Youth Policy Labs.

FGB will contribute to the research activity by identifying the main issues concerning inclusive urban infrastructure and transport planning, which will be discussed in 4 Youth Policy Labs by young participants - aged between 18 and 30 - with the aim of developing ideas and methods for building modern inclusive cities.

During the project implementation and with the support of FGB experts, strategies and resources for youth workers will also be created.

Networking activities, such as national round tables of experts and transnational meetings, will ensure a solid validation and dissemination of the project results, with the aim of scaling up the project for implementation in other EU Member States.
