FAIR campaign to make the EU Charter of fundamental rights accessible

As part of its role as coordinator of the project EU Charter of Fundamental Rights: Awareness Raising and Instrument to Promote a Culture of Rights (FAIR), Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini has launched a communication campaign to increase awareness on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and make it more understandable and accessible to people across Europe.

The campaign features a multichannel social media strategy supported by visual infographics that summarise the Charter's core principles into clear and engaging content. Through the use of straightforward, inclusive language, the initiative seeks to turn the Charter into a practical, everyday tool for citizens throughout the EU.

"By promoting fundamental rights as a shared European value, the campaign aims to counter the perception of the Charter as a complex, legal text, distant from people's everyday lives" explains Marta Capesciotti, Social Justice expert at Fondazione Brodolini and scientific coordinator of the FAIR project. "It also sheds light on key distinctions, such as between the Charter and the European Convention on Human Rights, and offers practical guidance for individuals facing rights violations," she adds.

The campaign is structured into three thematic infographic series:

  • Origins, introducing the Charter’s history, philosophical foundations, and legal status.
  • Application, explaining to whom the Charter applies and the roles of national and EU courts.
  • Action, mapping national-level complaint mechanisms and support services, with country-specific information from all nine partner countries.

This initiative offers a concrete example of how complex legal frameworks can be transformed into practical tools for civic empowerment, helping bridge the gap between EU institutions and citizens, and fostering a culture of rights in Europe.
