European School of Industrial Relations (SERI)

As a special Unit of Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini, the European School of Industrial Relations (SERI) has been at the forefront of understanding the evolving world of work, labour, and industrial relation since 2012.

The world of work is undergoing rapid and profound transformation. At SERI, we are dedicated to analysing and understanding this complex ecosystem that touches the lives of nearly everyone.

Chaired by Michele Faioli, Associate Professor of Labour Law and Industrial Relations at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and member of FGB's scientific committee, and Manuelita Mancini, Director of Fondazione Brodolini, SERI brings together leading researchers in their respective fields.

SERI-FGB's alumni are emerging as influential figures in academia and across broader communities. They are making significant strides as leaders across diverse sectors – including industry, government, law, non-profit organisations, and academia –, leaving a lasting impact on their fields.

Today, more than ever, the insights generated by SERI's research and the impact of our programmes are crucial in shaping the future of industrial relations and its broader societal implications.

As a preeminent European research institution focused on the critical domains of industrial relations and labour, SERI's mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge that contributes to building a more equitable and prosperous future of work.

SERI aims to create a positive impact on individuals and society through:

  • research: SERI conducts innovative and relevant social science research centred on industrial relations and labour. Its findings are intended to influence public policy, inform strategic decision-making within organisations, and elevate professional practices – also through collaboration with key European Institutions dealing with social and labour issues such as Eurofound, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the European Labour Authority.
  • outreach: SERI translates its research, thought and leadership into practical tools for workers, trade unions, and employers' organisations, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application. This includes initiatives such as SERI Outreach, SERI Reality Check, and SERI Young Scholars Meetings.

SERI-FGB alumni are recognised for their ability to critically analyse complex labour issues and drive meaningful change. They are equipped with a deep understanding of the dynamics of work and the skills required to lead in a rapidly evolving environment.

Their contributions span a wide range of fields, reflecting the breadth and depth of their training at SERI.
