Communicating fundamental rights, in Brussels with FAIR

Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini, in collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), is organising the international seminar How to use and communicate the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. The event will mark the conclusion of the project EU Charter of Fundamental Rights: awareness raising and instruments to promote a culture of rights (FAIR), coordinated by FGB, and will take place on Tuesday 10 February 2026, from 09.00 AM to 2.30 PM, in person in Brussels and online via Zoom.

Funded by the European Commission through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme, FAIR brings together research centres, universities, and civil society organisations to raise awareness and enhance the implementation of the European Charter of Fundamental Rights across 9 EU Member States: Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Spain, Cyprus, Portugal and Greece.

The seminar will be structured into two sessions, and will focus on strategies for using and communicating the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Following an overview of FAIR activities and results by researchers from the Social Justice Area of Fondazione Brodolini, Sanja Jovicic, Legal Expert at the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), will deliver a keynote speech on the importance of communicating and disseminating the Charter, followed by a Q&A session. The seminar will continue with an open discussion involving civil society organisations and stakeholders.

"Over these two years, the FAIR project has fostered awareness and the protection of fundamental rights, highlighting the Charter's contribution through focus groups, roundtables and workshops on a variety of topics, ranging from anti-discrimination strategies to educational freedom, and fundamental rights in the digital era" explains Marta Capesciotti, Senior Researcher in FGB's Social Justice Area and scientific coordinator of the FAIR project.

"In addition, we launched a communication campaign to make the contents of the Charter of Fundamental Rights more understandable and accessible to people across Europe" she added.

The seminar will take place in Brussels at U Residence (VUB – Main Campus), Etterbeek Pleinlaan 2, 1050 Elsene. Participation is free and open to all interested participants upon online registration
