Re-thinking Europe’s skill needs, SkillsPULSE conference in Rome

As coordinator of the project SkillsPULSESkills - Predicting, Understanding, and Locating Shortages in Europe, Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini is organising the European conference Re-Thinking Europe’s Skill Needs: Reflections Following the European Year of Skills, which will take place in Rome on Tuesday 29 October 2024 at The Building Hotel (via Montebello, 126), from 10.00 AM to 6.00 PM.

On the same occasion, the book Re-Thinking Europe’s Skill Needs: Reflections Following the European Year of Skills, published by Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini, will also be presented. The publication has been edited by Liga Baltina, Head of FGB's Labour Market & Skills Research Unit, and Terence Hogarth, Professor at the Institute for Employment Research, University of Warwick.

By featuring expert panels and discussions focusing on the key challenges in Europe's labour market – labour shortages, the growth of green jobs, and the impact of AI on workforce transformation –, the conference will provide the opportunity to share insightful discussions and reflections on the skill needs in Europe. It will bring together experts, researchers, professionals and policy makers to explore how to tackle the skill needs, including Glenda Quintini, Head of Skills and Future readiness Division at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The agenda of the conference will comprise an expert panel on tackling labour shortages and workforce transformation; a roundtable discussion on measuring labour and skill shortages in Europe; and a policy roundtable on how to develop a sustainable workforce for the future focused on experience of Italy.

The day before the conference, from 4.00 to 6.30 PM, SkillsPULSE's Experts workshop on defining skill shortages and gaps will take place at the same venue. During the workshop, the initial results of the project will be presented and discussed, following the second partnership meeting of the project on the same date.

Simultaneous translation will be available in both Italian and English throughout the event. Participation is free, upon previous online registration.
