Our study for Cedefop on citizenship competences in IVET

The research paper Citizenship education in initial vocational education and training: enabling and hindering factors – Literature review published by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational training (Cedefop) is now available online. The publication was developed as part of Cedefop's wider study on citizenship education in initial vocational education and training (IVET), which is being carried out by Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini.

The report marks an important milestone in the study, which explores how IVET systems across Europe contribute to the development of citizenship competences and identifies the factors that enable or hinder their integration into vocational education and training.

Alongside the literature review, the project includes extensive field research across eight European countries. FGB has now completed the field research in Czechia, the Netherlands, Norway and Portugal, and has started field research in Germany, Romania, Estonia and Italy.

The country-level research will provide further evidence on how citizenship education is embedded in school- and company-based IVET and help identify effective practices, challenges and opportunities for strengthening citizenship competences in VET.
